Coming out of hibernation??

This will be a boring post, I'm afraid.  All I've really worked on this week is my 3 Color Cashmere (& silk) Cowl.  And I finished it!

I used Miss Babs Sojourn in Coos Bay (light blue), Blackwatch (darker blue), and Sable.  I did run low on the Coos Bay, which is why the interesting mix of blues toward the top on the lace section.  It was a fun knit though!  I really enjoyed having an interesting row to knit among the straight stockinette rows as I knitted along.  Plus the color changes.

Here is a pile of my knitted woolies for warmth:

If you work your way from top to bottom, they are the 3 Color Cashmere Cowl, the Moebius cowl from Vogue Knitting, the Walking Tour Scarf, and the Wear With All Stole.

I didn't work on my Fussy Cut Friday star quilt this past Friday.  I was too busy chipping at the thick layer of ice that formed on the driveway from the first part of the multi-day storm Tuesday into Wednesday, plus more snow on top of the ice crust (at least an inch or two thick).  We actually got stuck on the driveway once on Thursday after the second storm, the ice was so bad.   Here is a pic of me with the ice chipper that the father type took to show how high the snow piles are along the driveway.  I'm 5' 2" so that will give you an idea.

Anyway, my hands and finger muscles get so sore from the ice chipping that I can't hold a needle to sew.  So knitting was the answer, thank goodness!  It's nice that knitting doesn't require gripping something.  lol!

I heard somewhere that we've gotten something like 52" of snow this year.  Nothing compared to the almost record (or maybe they've reached the record?) 106" or so of snow in Boston.  But it's still way too much.  And the ice was even worse.  (It started out as slush, and then froze.  Ugh.)

The father type and I braved the end of the snow storm on Thursday to go into NYC for a concert.

I think by this time, you could call me a true Chris Thile/Punch Brothers groupie.  lol!  They were wonderful, of course!  Best band ever!

Here are a few sights we saw along the way.

Ice on the Hudson out the train window.

Verdi Square in the snow.

A view of the lobby from the waiting area outside the loge.

A glimpse of the Beacon Theatre from the loge.  A really pretty theatre!

Punch Brothers!  Looks like it's on TV or something.  lol!

Mia has been coming out of hibernation from the end of the storm on Thursday on.  It's like having her back from a long absence.  lol!

Thanks as always for stopping by and saying hi.  I hope everyone has a great week!  And that we all thaw out where such is needed desperately!  Come on spring!

What a winter! I feel for the folks in Boston. We have had frozen ice on our deck for almost a month. Yipee--this week the temps are suppose to reach into the sixties--I am so ready for spring! Protect those stitching fingers

Love the look on your face in the picture. Looks like you are saying "please, winter...just go away already!" And I'd have to agree!

That cowl is just gorgeous!

All that ice and snow! I can't believe you managed to get into the city! But I'm sure it was good for relieving cabin fever and your sore hands!

We are finally enjoying some days in the 50's and seeing significant melting. Couldn't come soon enough for me. Hope we have really turned the corner, but with a year like this, it might just be a brief respite!

Your knitting is amazing! I've been working on a simple moss stitch shawl...I take it in the car when we travel. You've finished all those lovely pieces in the time it has taken me to get twenty five or so inches done! Hope the thaw starts soon for you. We are up in the eighties the last few days. I fear our summer will be equally as wicked as your winter!
Have a great week,
Robyn

Oh I feel so terrible about your snow and ice situation! Been there, done that! We are having such a mild winter, which is odd. I don't mind, because being cold stinks!
Love your knitting though! So so wonderful! The concert sounds fabulous. Good for you for getting out.
Please warm up and stay safe. Hugs!

Love your cowl Margaret - gorgeous. Kim got me motivated and I'm knitting the cowlucopia in a silk fingering weight yarn - hopefully perfect for Spring (if it ever arrives...).

I'm being very optimistic that the worst of the snow is over, Margaret--we are due to hit 50 on Friday!! I know you're about ready to scream with all that ice and snow you got in NY--sure hope it melts soon and that will be the end of the white stuff until December :)

Lovely looking cowl--really all of your knitting is so special! Glad you had such a nice break and got away to the city--you deserved it after your hard work. Hope those hands feel better soon!

Ugh to all that snow, and to think Boston had twice as much! I hope it all goes away soon!

That concert hall looks awesome!

The only time I've been to NYC in recent years was for a concert at the Beacon - it was a gorgeous theatre. Glad you were able to make the show. You look awfully stoic in that photo my friend. I can tell you are not a snow bunny LOL - your knitted repertoire is just gorgeous - so many lovely things. Sorry your hands have been bothering you. Spring is coming - I hope !!! have a great week - Mel

Hang in there Margaret! Surely with the approach of St Paddy's the end is not too far off. All I can say is you'll never catch me up there in all that ice, my blood is wwwwaaaayyyy too thin at this point!

Loved the impressive display of knitted cowls and scarves - the colorwork is entrancing!

Margaret, your knitting is gorgeous! I love the Wear With All Stole (despite not knitting for months and still being on the first colour, I am hopeful for a someday finish). Your posts are never boring!
I hope your hands are feeling better. What a fun trip into NYC!
Have a great week!

What a beautiful theater! Glad you braved the weather. Hopefully you've had a breath of spring. It has been above freezing for a few days in northern Ohio, the snow is quickly melting...it feels a bit like heaven.
Beautiful knitting as always.
Hugs :)

Oh my, oh my, what a lot of snow you are still having. We also have an ice chipper and in some winters we have to make good use of it. And I know exactly how your hands feel after some time of chipping the ice away. No way to use a stitching needle, lol. BUt you could also make good use of all your knitted woolies this winter, couldn't you?

Your blog is never boring! I love the new cowl and all of the other lovely knitted items!!

I hope Spring is on its way to you soon!

Whoosh, blowing some spring over to you so that you can not be ice chipping anymore! I love all of your woolies Margaret! I wish I had your talent of knitting...my beginner's knitting is pretty pathetic! Give Mia a warm squeeze from me! I truly do hope that this month you will see snow melt!

Hopefully the worst is over for you in the east and we can all get to a little bit of springtime, and stitching in the sunshine.

I love that first photo of Mia. Yes the ice has been horrendous this year. I can't imagine Boston's dilemma. The knitted scarves are magnifico!

I am glad you are finally thawing out - and also SO glad that I do not have to deal with the work that goes into keeping the driveway and walkway safe and clear. Did you know that Coos Bay is an Oregon port town on the southern part of the coast? The port was in decline for decades, but now exports to Asia and has helped revive the town.

The ice is the worst I think. We had a lot of it too during the last storm. We chipped as well. However this past week, we've had warm temps and the ice is gone, and the snow is almost gone. yeah! I hope the same will be true for you too. I love your beautiful pile of knitted finishes. So pretty.

Oooo, I love old theaters with personality. I'm sure the show was also great. Ha!

You've really done some AWESOME knits recently! I love them ALL. :)
