A milestone

First off, here is my progress on my A Needleworker's Sampler Huswif.  I'm loving stitching this!

I always seem to be working on the large flower bands when I take progress pics!

In the past couple of weeks, I have received a couple of prizes I won.  First, I won a beautiful pack of luscious wool squares from Heirlooms by Ashton House.

So many pretty colors and so yummy!  Thank you so much!

Next, I won a copy of the Just Cross Stitch Annual Christmas Ornament Preview magazine from Jan of Tree of Life Samplings.

Jan has a lovely design inside, and she signed the page for me too!  So special!  Thank you, Jan!  I love your designs!

Now for the milestone.  All summer since the boy child got home, he and I (and the father type on weekends) have been going out driving.  Boy child driving.  Both my kids got late starts on getting their driver's licenses -- neither was in a hurry to get one, and we didn't push for it either.  But this, we decided, was the summer for the boy child to get his license.  So driving every day was the routine.

Last Thursday, the boy child went for his road test.  And he passed!!!  Hooray!  Now here in NY, the tester gives the successful test-ee something that is basically a receipt that serves as a temporary license (along with the test-ee's driver's permit) until the real thing is mailed to the person.  So I couldn't take a picture of the boy child with his new license yet.  But I did take a picture of the boy child as he was about to leave on his first ever solo drive.

Congratulations, kid!  You are an official driver now!

Our elusive girl child came home this past weekend as a surprise belated birthday gift to me.  She also gave me a lovely, delicate little bracelet, which I love!

She's back to her own home and work now, but it was so nice to have her visit.

Here are a few pictures of the boy child and his companion.  I love this series.

And yes, I was watching all the royal baby news last week!  lol!

Thanks as always for stopping by and saying hi.  I hope everyone has a great week.

Congrats to your son. The sampler is coming along beautifully, and congrats on the wins. As a UK (as well as Italian) citizen, I've been very puzzled to see how obsessed non-UKs have been about the new royal - what's the big deal for you all?

Beautiful stitching as always, Margaret!

Congrats to your son! None of our kids had their license before the age of 18 (one was 21) and I was always glad they waited. Still, that first solo drive is a bit nerve-wracking, isn't it?

Such a gorgeous WIP Margaret! Congrats to the boy child - being able to drive is a good life skill to have. Those first few solo trips though?!?! Mia is sure going to miss his company when he heads back to school.

Awww, I love the boy-and-cat photos. Very sweet. Congrats to your son for his license. Our boy was not in a hurry to get his neither. Here in the "big" city he was happy enough to use transit. Besides it's very costly here to insure young drivers.

Love your stitching progress and that's a lovely bracelet from your daughter!

A great post Margaret, love the sampler and your bracelet. Well done Eli on passing first time. Now the worry will begin when he is out in the car!!!!

Is insurance expensive for youngsters in the States, in the UK it can be unafordable.

I think you've chosen a perfect huswif! It is lovely. Nice BD surprise, and great wins, too. You're the first to tempt me with the Christmas preview. Congratulations to the DS. Now you can send him on errands - as long as he's home! Be well.

Hi, Margaret,
Your sampler huswife is gorgeous. Will you use it as a huswife or frame it? You have courage to go driving as your son learned. My husband taught Evan. I went out with him once and nearly had a nervous breakdown! I too didn't get my drivers license on time. My mother bribed me with a horse if I put it off for a year. Good deal, 40 years later I still have horses! Adorable Mia, such a ham!

OOOH! Your huswife is looking gorgeous, Margaret! Congrats to your BC for getting his license. That first time the boys drove off by themselves left an icky lump in my throat for a long time. Luckily, it doesn't last forever! Cute series of pics of the BC and Mia and your new bracelet is lovely!

The Huswife is gorgeous, it is going to be a beauty! The sequence with Mia reminds me of a Chinese comment to the effect that cats are part lion, part monkey. When you watch her antics, you can believe the bit about the monkey. She is such a character!

Great progress on your sampler - it's a pretty one!

My youngest was a bit late getting his DL, about 6 months. We didn't let him drive with passengers for a while so he would gain experience on not be distracted. It was nice to have someone to run to the grocery store in a pinch vs having to pick him up at the movie theatre at midnight!

Congrats to your son for getting his driver's license that's definitely a milestone. I still remember how grateful I was when I didn't have to be the mama taxi any longer, lol.
