another update

This is what I hope is the final update from Sandy.  We got power back around 9pm Monday night.  Yay!  It was sooooooooooo nice.  Basically a week without power.  Irene kept us without power for 5 days.

We got our internet/phone/TV back today in the late afternoon.  And yes, thank God, we survived the nor'easter with our power intact.  We did get snow and wind, but the wind was just enough to knock the snow off the leaves that are still on the trees.  And the snow was just enough, not too much.  We were so lucky once again.

We had a bit of a scare today.  Poor father type has a kind of food poisoning and has started antibiotics to treat it. We are hoping he will be feeling better by tomorrow and recovering nicely by the weekend.

Thanks to everyone for their good wishes for us through all of this.  We were so lucky, as I've said before.  Yes, we had the inconvenience of no power etc.  But we have our house and are safe.  We are still figuring out about the car -- whether we can manage to salvage it despite it being totalled, or whether we have to get a new car.  We shall see.  There are the fallen trees to take care of, but they are not in the way, so we will get to it.  Like I said, we were so lucky.  My thoughts go out to all those who are still suffering, who have lost their homes or businesses  -- in short, everyone affected by Sandy and the nor'easter.

I have finished what I could of the model stitching for now and am waiting the arrival of the rest of the chart for the model.  So perhaps I will have a bit of non model stitching to show you next time.  And I haven't forgotten the red wall either.  Although I should say my red wall is very small, so don't be disappointed.  :D

I will leave you all with a picture -- recreated -- of what Mia was doing through much of the power outage.  We had our little wood stove burning away in the evenings, and Mia enjoyed the warmth very much.  It was too dark to capture it in real life however.  So this is just a recreation of what she would do.  I took it soon after we got our power back.

Thanks as always for stopping by and saying hi.  And thank you to all my blogging friends.  Your good wishes and thoughts for us mean so much.  Oh, and it might take me a while to catch up with blog reading, but I'll be back to commenting soon!

So glad to hear that you're safe and your home has survived. The rest is very minor in comparison to what could have been. I hope your husband recovers quickly - food poisoning can be awful.

MIa had the right idea!

Whew! Good thing you had the wood burner. I keep thinking of all the babies and young ones being cold and hungry. Glad it's come to an end (except for the car), including the food illness!

That's so much better! Although I think Mia may have been loving the fire a bit too much!
Margaret, I am really happy to hear you are okay and that you were safe...it is just terrible that people are still waiting for help. I do hope they get it soon.
I am going to send proceeds from my sale to the Red Cross so they can help the people of Staten Island.

I'm so glad that you're back with power, safe and sound!! I hope your DH is feeling better and back to his usual self soon, too. Here's hoping for an uneventful winter--I think this autumn has had enough nature surprises to cover you for the next few years, let alone seasons!!

So glad to hear that your power is back! What a pain that was!
I could have taken the same picture of my woodstove. One of my cats, Ollie, sits so close behind it, that I swear you can smell cat fur sizzling!
Hope your husband feels better soon. There must be something going around. My husband came home sick last night too. He thinks it is food poisoning too.

Such an ordeal, Margaret--I am sure this experience makes you really appreciate the simple things in life, doesn't it? Glad your kitty was able to stay warm and that your power is finally back. Sure hope your DH feels back to normal very soon. Food poisoning can be pretty terrifying... Take care now and I look forward to your next "back to normal" post!

Wonderful!!! (Except about FT's food poisoning. :( )

We lost power for only a few hours, but have been really plagued by road closings, gas shortages, curfew, rationing...For us the aftermath was worse than the storm. The Nor'easter dropped a goodly amount of snow on us, but no power loss (yay!). It is almost all melted now.

Mia looks so comfortable there! I am so jealous of her! :D

well I am so glad to hear your power and services are back on - I was worried about you being w/o heat. Poor DH - being sick - YUCK - must be pretty nasty if he had to go on meds for it. I hope he will be better soon. You should have started some knitting - always nice to have a lap full of wool when you are cold. Imagine Mia would think it was just for her. AHHHH - you should make her one of those felted kitty beds - she would LOVE it - have a great weekend - Mel

We all take electricity for granted and it is not until you havn't got it that you realise how difficult life can be.

Your wood burner must have been a blessing for you.

I hope your DH is feeling better.
