That nasty Irene

Hi all.  Just wanted to stick my nose in to say thanks for all the emails and concern about us.  We made it through Irene.  But we lost power about 5:30pm on Sunday and didn't get it back till noon today.  Ugh.  And we had 5 1/4" of water in our basement -- more than any time before.  With no power.  Ugh.  (The water didn't start subsiding till late late Monday and wasn't gone till yesterday.)  The plumber is currently downstairs installing a new water heater.  Everything else down there seems to work, thank God.  There will have to be a major basement cleanup at some point, but not sure when that will happen.

I apologize ahead of time if I don't comment on anyone's blogs for a while or answer your comments to my blog.  I will do my best to start commenting again.   I will also do a TUSAL post soon and a stitching update.

We were lucky when it comes down to it.  We're safe and sound, the house is safe and sound, so we're all good!  But boy, I hope never to live through another hurricane.  lol!

Oh, and a funny thing.  The girl child had a vacation down in Myrtle Beach from last Wednesday to yesterday.  I was panicking about her going down there with the hurricane coming.  Well, of course she came through with hardly any bad weather at all in Myrtle Beach.  We were the ones with the hurricane.  Wouldn't you know it!

I will post again soon.

So sorry to hear about all that mess!
I think these power companies have a lot of 'spalinin' to do!
Try not to stress out too much about it. I know that's easier said than done.

Yuck! Water in the basement is no fun at all, but thank goodness it was only there. Glad to know y'all are ok. Your daughter must be thrilled that she cheated Irene.

So glad to hear from you! I figured you were dealing with basement "goo." Ugh.

I told my parents, who live uncomfortably close to the water on Cape Cod, that they should go to Vermont to be safe. Fortunately, they don't pay any attention to anything I say.

That's a long time to be without power and then with all that unwanted water to boot! At least the worst is over and you are safe. I feel for you with the clean-up ahead. Take care..

Hi Margaret, I to kept checking your blog to see if you were ok. I guessed you didn't have any power so that is why I didn't email.

I'm so glad that you are all ok which is the main thing and have survived Irene. Possessions can always be replaced, but not people.

Sorry to hear about your basement. Hopefully it won't take long to clear out the water and get things back to normal. Doesn't sound like fun. Take care - Sandra.

So sorry to hear of the mess that Irene left behind. She wasn't a very nice house guest to many, was she? I hope it all gets fixed up soon for you and I am glad to hear that in the end, you all are okay!

Glad you are okay. Nashville received 17" of rain in 2010 and the city was major flooded! Clean up after a flood is no fun

I was just thinking about you today, Margaret... So good to know you made it through Irene, but I'm so sorry to hear about the basement flooding--that is a lot of water! Good luck with cleanup and let's all hope this hurricane that's brewing in the Atlantic stays far, far away.

Take care now!

So glad you came through the hurricane okay...or without harm to you or your family. I am sorry you had property damage and issues. I can't believe you were without power that long - whew!!

I think you have a good reason not to comment, not to reply, etc. Hope your cleanup goes well.

Hang in there girlie! It will get better. Exhausting, isn't it? I feel like I could sleep for a whole month after this last week. Wow. So so hard. Sorry you had to go through it too. :(

Oh Margaret...I'm so glad you are all OK. I knew when I didn't see a post on Monday that you probably did not have power. I've been without power in a hurricane before for four days!! If that ever happens again...I'm moving into WalMart!! LOL

Hugs dear friend...

I'm sorry that you have such a hard time the storm! Being out of power for that long is miserable, let alone dealing with a flooded basement!! But you and the family are fine and that's all that matters!!

So glad you're safe! My folks just got power back yesterday (they're in VA) but had no other damage other than a few tree limbs coming down. Water in the basement is not fun - I don't envy you the clean up.

Oh my goodness Margaret! So sorry to hear your basement was flooded, and that you were without power for so long! Did everything in your fridge and freezer survive? What an ordeal! I hope you get everything back to normal soon. I'm glad to hear your family is safe.
Hugs to you.

Oh Margaret, I am so sorry to hear about the troubles caused by Irene. I hate flooding! Our last house seemed to flood if you spilled a glass of water in the basement. It did get old pretty quickly...
It is good to hear that all of you are all right and that your daughter didn't have to go through any rough storms at the coast.

Nancy said...

Glad you survived with not too much damage! We still have people around here that have no power, it is really starting to wear on people. Hope the basement cleanup goes well.
