Ugh

Why ugh, you say?  Well, our central air conditioning broke down.  On the hottest day of the year (yes, that hottest day.  Friday. The day of 100 plus temperatures.).  We are hoping to get the new part for a fix today, but I have the feeling it might be tomorrow instead.  Sigh.  At least it's cooler today.

But enough of ugh.  Here's SDW as of now.

It was too hot to stitch a whole lot over the weekend.  But I got some done.

These motifs are huge and take forever to finish.  The deer and weird fruit looking thing and the crowns were refreshing in comparison.

I also won a prize from Carmen Sutton of Cardan Antiques and Needlework.  Carmen was so generous -- she gave out prizes to all who entered the giveaway!

There was the Tennessee Sampler booklet and

A wonderful velvet carrot made by Carmen along with some seeds.  Thank you so much, Carmen!  I love my prize!

Mia has recently gotten very fond of a Barnes and Noble bag.  (Don't worry, she's smart enough not to suffocate in the bag, and the bag doesn't have big handles so she can't get stuck in it either.)  For some reason she loves to curl up inside it.

Such a silly girl!

Thanks as always for stopping by and saying hi.  I hope everyone has a wonderful week.  I also hope everyone has a much cooler week!  Ugh.  (For those on the other side of the world, I hope you get a warmer week!)

Ugh is right...DANG ! I hope, hope, hope your A/C gets repaired ASAP. I would be so miserable I wouldn't be able to stitch at all. Your work is amazing on your sampler. That is one crazy piece! And of course, sweet Mia...such an entertainer! Hugs to you both!

Maybe we should take our summers and split them in two - it would give us both a tolerable warm summer. Ours has just been awful. However, the rain suits the mood here at the moment. The sampler is so fun! You do good work. And what is it about cats and bags!?

We have had some A/C issues too - I hope yours is fixed soon - Hang in there -

your sampler looks beautiful !!

I can totally understand about the heat since we are on our 24th consecutive day with 100F plus heat. Today it is suppose to get to 106F and that is without the heat index. Hard to think how that would feel without air conditioning.

Your SDW sampler is gorgeous. I really like the motifs in this one. I have this on my want list but now I think I might just need to go ahead and get the pattern.

I always enjot stopping by to see what you are working on. Your work is inspiring (and we have similar test in samplers).

Its so doggone hot here too and muggy and just GROSS!
But on the bright side your fresh as a daisy stitching in such bright colors makes the day much cooler :)

Ellie wants you to know that she thinks Mia has a "pretty thick coat. She must eat Fancy Feast!" and she wanted to know "What is the owner's name and what is the pretty cat's name?" When I told her she said, "How do you know her? Oh, I guess she cross stitches like you?" :D

Oh, Margaret..how perfectly awful! I cannot imagine not having air, as our temps have been horrible, too. I hope you get it up and running today. Beautiful sampler..and that Mia is simply darling.

You poor thing! This has been such a record-setting heat wave, you must be miserable. I perspire so much that I couldn't have stitched at all in that case! But you've done some lovely work on the sampler. And Mia is like a little kid who likes the box better than the gifts inside!

Hope that repairman shows up soon.

SDW looks gorgeous! They heat is unbearable here, so I can't imagine having to do without A/C. Hope yours is fixed soon!!!

Oh that sounds hot hot Margaret, hope the AC works soon!
The sampler is coming along though, great stitching there.
Looking at Mia in the bag, very funny:)) my friends cat does the same.
Keep cool:))

That Mia is such a character! Pets bring so much joy into their humans lives.

Sorry about the A/C. Ugh doesn't even cover it if it is a warm there as it has been here. Hope the fix happens today!!

Ohhhh....a bag full of cat. Isn't she a cutie? And that without airco, that cat amazes me.
I really hope for you that the airco gets fixed soon.
Ohhh....and your pictures of SDW have me drooling again.
Congrats on winning that beautiful price. Love that carrot.

Ooh, sorry about the aircon Margaret! Your temps have been ridiculously high, whereas we've barely hit the 20s C over the past few weeks.

Cute pic of Mia - Maisie likes getting into bags too!

SDW looks great!! I hope that your AC gets repaired asap. We had that happen to us during a heat wave when we lived in the US, too. It's like they are special wired to fail when it's super hot, so that you will pay anything to get it fixed!! LOL I hope it cools off for you soon!

Your Sampler is looking gorgeous:))

Sorry about the a/c:( Wouldn't you know that it would happen on the hottest day? I hope you get it fixed soon

Deb said...

I can not believe how much you have gotten done on that sampler - hot weather and all! It looks wonderful.

I so feel your pain with the broken air conditioner. Ours went down last year during the hottest part of the summer and we needed a completely new system - and so did half the city I think! It took three days to have it put in and we were dying. I can only imagine what it was like when it hit 100! Miserable for sure!!

Mia reminds me of kids, you know. Give them some cheap, inexpensive thing and they will play with it all day - like boxes. In Mia's case, it's a bag. Now you know you won't need expensive cat toys for her!

Jules said...

My cat does that too. Sometimes, she crawls into a shopping bag and I look at her and ask if she wants to go somewhere, LOL!

I would hate for my a/c to quit right now. Hope yours is fixed soon!!

SDW looks fabulous. I'm so sorry that your central air failed on you during this oppressive heat wave. No fun. Hope it gets fixed soon.
Mia is looking as adorable as ever in her fav new shopping bag.

So sorry to hear no air...hope it's on soon. Thankfully, we had ours checked and it's okay, but it is over 35 years old. It's 100+ here too.

You stitching is wonderful! Hope you're cool soon.

Jenny said...

Oh Mia is just too cute!
I am crossing my fingers and hoping that your AC gets fixed soon - I can't really stitch when it's hot either...
The sampler looks wonderful. I like the "weird looking fruit"!

Your progress on your sampler is just beautiful. You must have a lot of patience working on all of the motifs.

I know just how you must have felt without your A/C....ours broke down a few weeks ago, and we had it serviced, but the fix only lasted about 2 weeks and we had to have the service come again, and have a part replaced. Fortunately, they gave us some credit since they didn't catch the broken part on the first visit! Ah...for the cool air again!

Mia is so adorable as always.

Valerie said...

Bless your heart!! No A/C last Friday??? UGH is right! I do hope that you get some relief soon!

You are making fantastic progress on SDW...such an amazing piece!

Mia is darling as usual...how does she do it? :-) Isn't it interesting how you can buy the most expensive and fabulous kitty toys but for some reason they love playing with leftover ribbons and old bags? Go figure!

Stay cool any way you know how!

Beautiful sampler Margaret! I love the bright colours and the motifs!! Sorry to hear about the insane heat. Here in BC, Canada, we are having the coldest summer ever, but we can't complain because I would rather have cooler days than heat wave days! My cat loves to go into plastic bags too!! I think they like the crinkly sound.

Kelly said...

Your sampler is beautiful! You would think Mia could find somewhere a little cooler than a plastic bag.

Ellen said...

I always look forward to your updates. You new sampler is loooking great, but my what a bummer about the air. Hopefully it is now fixed.

Jeanne said...

Lovely progress on your sampler! Seems the A/C always breaks during a heat wave - good luck getting it fixed FAST. There's always a cool bath to relieve the heat a bit :). I had a good friend who's cat slept in a Marshall Fields green paper bag all the time. The cat's gone now as well as Marshall Fields darn it.

Catherine said...

What a day for your air to have gone out!! The heat index at my house was 127 that day!! I would have gone crazy bonkers! I do hope that they got you all fixed up today.

Your stitches look great - I kinda like that weird fruit thingy.

A sack full of cat - what is it about boxes/bags and cats - I sometimes wish that my boys could so easily entertain themselves!

Thanks for the thoughts for a warmer week :o) It seems that the whole of the states are sweltering frome what I hear, try to stay cool and as usual I love that stitching, oh and the carrot too...so cute..

Hi Margaret, SDW is looking really lovely. I am sorry that you have had problems with the A/C. You aren't having a good year with your heating and cooling this year, you poor thing. If I could, I would send some cold air over for you. Ooohhh love your carrot lol. I wonder when mine will arrive. Isn't Mia a crazy cat lol. You would think being inside the bag would make her hotter. - Sandra.

Carol said...

Oh, that is awful about your AC, Margaret--weren't you the one who had troubles with your furnace this winter, too? Do you have a nice cool basement you can retreat to?

Hang in there--I hope we all get a break from this heat very soon...Your sampler is looking lovely as is Miss Mia :)

mdgtjulie said...

I understand your AC problem. Mine was out Friday night and Saturday. It was too hot! High nineties each day, which is very bad for my asthma. My landlord got it working again Sunday afternoon, and since then it's been fine. Weird! Sorry you had to go through it too. It's a cruddy time of year for the AC to go out!! Wishing you cooler temps Margaret!! Good progress on your sampler. Some of the colors in that are just gorgeous!! Love the pics of Mia in the bag. Cats can be so weird sometimes, lol. Here's hoping you (and I) have cooler weather soon!

Melissa said...

That's a Cat-in-the-Bag! Cutie pie that she is!

I can imagine I would say more than Ugh to that heat. I feel for you guys! I wish I could send some of the rain your way!

Love the velvet carrot - must check out their shop!

You seem to have done quite a lot more on the sampler - you are such a fast stitcher. Good luck with the air con - hope by now it is repaired.

Wow those motifs ARE big! But regardless of size or heat of day, we can count on you to have plenty of stitches to show. Sleeping in plastic in this heat???

So sorry your air is out.
The pictures of your cat are too funny. It reminds me of how my cat use to love to play in the paper grociery sac when I was emptying them from grocery shopping.
I always think it is so funny that pet stores just don't sell a sac for a cat toy instead of all those other things.

Hello Margaret! SDW is such a beautiful sampler. Love all the motifs in this one - especially those at the bottom of the sampler. Don't know if I would ever get to the bottom if I started at the top on this one!! Sorry about your a/c. I've watched The Weather Channel the past few days and the map of the US is orange, red and purple which might be nice colors for a quilt but surely too hot for this cold weather gal! Blessings to you - kelley

Giovanna said...

Great going on the sampler - very fast as always! I hope your air-co gets repaired asap, that can't be any un at all... and yikes, I really find those pics of Mia unsettling (no way I'd let a cat do that no matter how smart it is!)

Dawn said...

Darn those spare parts - what's the deal with technology anyway ;-)
Your sampler is coming along nicely - love all the motifs.
You win id precious - the carrot darling.
Sweet bag kitty - never a dull moment.

Oh my! I don't do 'no AC' at all. I'd be so miserable! Hope that gets fixed, and soon! Love your stitching and your little Mia!

I can't even contemplate not having an a/c in this weather. OMG I feel for you! I would be in a helpless puddle on the floor all day. lol (Seriously. I HATE the heat.)

Oooh no that is not good! I hope your A/C is fixed now. I don't know how you cope with temps like that. That would be way too hot for me! I'm glad I live in England:)

Your sampler is coming along really well.

Lol @ Mia!

I hope your AC is repaired by now. Right now our dishwasher is dead so I am washing them by hand. Brings back memories but not something I want to do for much longer.

Your piece is just stunning! Congratulations on the giveaway and all the goodies. Mia is a sweetie and obviously a joy to have around.
