Sorry, Jane.....

Jane, I couldn't take those white faces.  In fact, I couldn't take a lot of how you stitched Adam and Eve, but I felt the only thing I could really change was the face color.  I would have liked to get rid of the backstitching, but you foiled me, Jane.  You stitched Adam's arms with backstitch.  So I went ahead and followed your lead and did the backstitch.  I hate backstitching.  Not backstitching itself, but the look of it.  Sigh.  Oh well.  So Jane, I hope you don't mind.  But here is my version of your Adam and Eve.

I think they look at least a bit more normal with faces that match their body skin tones.

But I tell you.  I find Adam and Eve to be so disappointing next to the rest of the design.  What happened, Jane?  I mean, primitive is good.  But this??   Ah well.  I will try to ignore the poor twosome -- they're going to be kicked out of Paradise soon anyway.

I still have part of the right border to go, plus all of the flowers on the bottom border.  PLUS the verse, which is ongoing, as you can see.  So no end in sight yet.  Plus which it's summer -- or at least it's half summer (boy child is still in school, girl child isn't).  Which means less stitching time.  Sigh.....

I got a lovely prize from Barbara of Mainely Stitching the other day.   Just for answering a question on her blog!

It's all kitted up too!  I was so happy to get this in the mail!  Thank you so much, Barbara!  You're a sweetie!  You all should check out Barbara's blog -- she's been designing some wonderful pieces that are being featured in the Gift of Stitching Magazine.  I love them all so far!

In other news, the girl child started her internship at a NYC publisher last week, and she's off to work today as well.  All I can say is -- there's no way I'd want to do that commute every day!  Drive to the station (that's my part), take train to city, subway to work, then reverse the whole thing for the ride home (father type does picking up).  Bleagh!

The weather was typically summerish last week, hot and humid.  But some storms blew through Sunday and brought in some lovely, cool weather with no humidity.  Ah!  So refreshing!  I wish it would stay this way!

Did anybody watch the French Open?  All psyched for Wimbledon?  Wimbledon is my favorite slam of the year.  And we finally took the plunge and got the Tennis Channel on TV, so I'll be able to watch the Queens Club tournament before that!  Cool stuff!

Thanks as always for stopping by and saying hi.  I always love to read your comments and visit with you.  Have a great week!

LOL Margaret....Adam and Eve kind of look like they're the very first Simpsons!! Kind of dorky looking aren't they? Too funny. BUT girlfriend, I love your work and watching your progress. Jane is just beautiful!! Have a great week. It's really, really, hot and humid here in Florida. Friday night at midnight it was 85 degrees, 81% humidity! Thank goodness for A/C and ceiling fans! Hugs

I'm really looking forward to Wimbledon and Queen's, as always! Just hope the weather will be good enough for me to sit and watch on the laptop outside ;)

Jane is looking fantastic, you're making such great progress, even if A&E look a little...weird LOL!

I agree A&E are a little wonky but the piece is beautiful. I love the flowers in this project. I hate doing faces because if they have no personality they can throw off a whole project. Libby Sturdy has you start her pieces with the face so you make sure they are right before you invest more time.

I love your Adam and Eve! I went and looked at the picture on the Scarlet Letter website and you've changed their expressions as well and added an inside curve to Eve's arm. A big improvement in my book. Looking forward to another finish pretty soon!

Oh Adam and Eve look great to me - like I've said, I just love this sampler!! :D

I'm so glad you like the kit. I was hoping to have found something that fit your taste (couldn't find any A&E, LOL!).

Yea, A&E are kinda dorky looking. For a second, I couldn't figure out which one was really the guy and the girl because of the weird hair but then I noticed the boobies. Am I allowed to say that?! Your progress is amazing though! I'd still be stuck on border in the same amount of time!

How Girl Child enjoys her internship. It sounds fun despite the commute. I'm thinking of a short NY trip in the Fall. I'll contact you for cool shop recs in NYC, in case you know of any, soon. Sounds like you live kind of far though.

Ergh, I meant "hope Girl Child enjoys her internship". Brain works faster than fingers. LOL

LOL at A&E's prospect of a short stay! Not on the sampler though, hopefully! I think they're kind of cute. Great progress, as always.

Looking good! x

lol you are right about A & E. The rest of the sampler is beautiful but they just don't seem...er...right.

Berit said...

lol they really aren't much worth seeing, are they? :P Especially in comparison to the grandness of the rest of the piece! Whew!

What a cool prize from Barbara. :)

Yeah like the skin colour Margaret, sometimes you just have to follow your own instinct on this, the sampler looks fantastic.

Like the present!

Your sampler is gorgeous! Adam & Eve are different, aren't they, and Eve resembles Homer Simpson a little. But, quirky is good!

Margaret, you are such a treat!!! I had several wild giggles over what you wrote, especially the part where they are going to get kicked out of Paradise soon anyway. They are odd, no doubt, but it gives the sampler character. The imperfection with the perfection. I totally agree that you did the right thing to change their skin colour. Maybe Jane just had to improvise with the thread she had at hand during difficult times or something.
Looks really great Margaret! ; )

No, come on...there's a tennis channel on tv? What there needs to be is a stitching channel. Yeah, I agree about the Adam & Eve Simpsons--too funny--especially Adam's hair. I was looking at some sampler online the other day--and both Adam and Eve had huge belly buttons. Go figure!

I thought of you when I opened up my computer to CNN and saw the tennis news wondering if you had enjoyed the games.
Your sampler is gorgeous. I love the flowers particularly.

I like your version. I never understood the scary looking Adams and Eves!

I think you did wonderful revisions to the funky A&E - However you should have gleaned my bon jovi adam and svelt glam eve that I redid from Jane's sampler to my rug LOL - no matter what anyone's opinion is that sampler is gorgeous and you have done an outstanding job - I wonder how long DD's commute actually is ? - the thought of having to do all that just makes me tired - it's all I can do these days to get up - get my shower - get ready and drive 25 min to work. AHHH - to be young again ! Enjoy the tennis TV - Mel

I love Jane, Margaret! I think you will be so pleased with the overall finish :) It's going to be an heirloom!!!

Jane is fantastic and I'm glad you gave them faces in the same color as their body! I really love their leaves - and Adam's arm going across his body does look like something a young girl (or old, unartistic woman like me) would draw.

Good luck to you DD on her NYC job! How exciting!!!

Congrats on getting the tennis station on cable... I know you'll be watching whenever you can.
Jane continues to look fabulous, even with the the cartoonish looking A&E.
What publisher is your DD interning with this summer? How I remember those long, hot summer commutes... it sucks the life right out of you.

Margaret,

Jane looks wonderful....I got a kick out of what you wrote about them being kicked out of Paradise.

Hope your daughter enjoys her summer internship. Don't know if you knew that my brother is a publisher in NYC--wouldn't it be funny if she ended up working for him?

Someone is trying to work out my teaching up your way this fall.

Hi Margaret, you have a tennis channel lol. My goodness, I think you will be in tennis heaven.
A&E look lovely all the same colour. Maybe they had white faces as they realised what they had done and were in the bad books. Love Adam's hair. But they go so well with the overall sampler. The floral border is just magnificent.
Good luck to the Girl Child on her new job. - Sandra.

Wow! You seem to be really flying through this project. I agree that Adam and Eve are a bit less spectacular than the rest of the project. They certainly look better with your changes though!

I think Adam and Eve look super, Margaret! Jane is just coming along beautifully! How fun to get a surprise in the mail!

But how exciting to have an internship in NYC! I bet she loves it.

Adam and Eve look great! I may have to copy you. This piece is so gorgeous.

he is definitly saying- "is she nuts or what?"
hooray for your daughters internship

I like the skin colour you've gone for, they do look a bit weird compared to the rest of the piece but it is all looking wonderful.

Thank goodness for Queen's following straight on from the French, I need something to help with the withdrawal symptoms from the last two weeks!!! Mind you, it's to be wet in London today so not sure how much tennis might be happening.

Congrats on the blog win!

I love your A&E. I like the white faces, but I love your version, too. :)

Jane is looking great, Margaret! What color did you end up doing their faces in? I really don't like the color chosen for the carolers faces in Christmas at HRH and that block will be coming up for me in September... (To me they look rather ghoulish!!) So any suggestions you can give would be appreciated :)

Humm! it is true, A&E look both a little strange but how nice are the flowers in this Sampler : you make great job on it, Matgaret :-)
Have a nice week,
Isa

Oh dear, you are so right - they do look a bit primitive... I will have to contemplate them a bit if I ever get to stitching this. But overall it is a stunning design. Your progress is just fantastic.

We are still in school as well - the kids don't get out until the 17th. So, just a bit more to go.

Littlebit said...

Do I DARE ask you what your next project will be, Margaret? LOL! I really want to know.

You are too funny Margaret! Your sampler is wonderful, but I'm not crazy about A&E either, I think you did a great job with the color changes. Have a wonderful evening! Hugs dear friend.
