Oh Mia my oh!

Sewing and stitching have come to a complete halt.  My poor clamshell quilt sits neglected exactly where I left it as of the last posting.

No stitching at all -- but for a very good reason.  As of Tuesday, July27, we have a new family member.  Meet Mia.

She's a little over 8 weeks old now.  We got her after a certain boy child fell in love with her while babysitting her for a friend.

See how small she is?   :D   Anyway, the boy child called me (this was the day before we welcomed her to our family) and asked in his boy child way (rather noncommittally but obviously totally smitten) if we could have a certain little kitten.  And so here she is.  She has definitely stolen everyone's hearts.

The boy child's heart.

The girl child's heart.

The father type's heart (although Mia was a bit doubtful about this loud, boisterous fellow at first).

And of course my heart.  (Please ignore the frowsy woman in the picture.)

But of course, having a kitten in the house is like having a baby in the house.  lol!  I am hoping to attempt some stitching soon.  But in the meantime, Samantha P and I have been spending lots of time with each other while a certain kitten sleeps on my lap.

Samantha P

Which reminds me.  "Mr. Rosenblum Dreams in English" by Natasha Solomons.  Good read.  I promise.  It might start a bit slowly, but it's worth the read.

Now that I've bored you all with our new family member (who is currently sleeping on my lap and thankfully no longer helping with this blog post), let me see what greatest hit I can come up with for your entertainment.  Ah yes, I'd promised the other Merry Cox piece, hadn't I?

This piece is what prompted me to want to take classes with Merry Cox.  I just love this one so much!  I hope you don't mind a bunch of pictures.

But I do think it's so pretty!

In other news, the girl child is doing the last days of her internship this week.  It sure seems to have gone fast to me.  I think she's enjoyed it, but is tired of the commute -- altogether it takes her about 2 hours one way.

Mia is keeping us busy day and (parts of the) night.  I was hoping she would grow out of the early risings and the periodic nighttime wakings, but the father type thinks that cats are a bit nocturnal and she'll keep on doing it.  Is this true?  I'd love to hear from you cat people out there.  She loves to sleep with someone (so far she's slept with 3 out of 4 of us), which is a problem since once she wakes up, she thinks the person she's sleeping with should wake up too.  lol!  She is such a sweetie though.  And very smart, IMO.   Can you tell I'm in love?

Well, thanks for stopping by and saying hi as always.  I will do my best to keep you entertained with my greatest hits while the stitchy stoppage continues.  Here's hoping Mia lets me stitch once in a while!

First of all - OMG!!! Mia is such a cutie :D I can see she's clearly captivated all of you straight away LOL!

As far as night-time goes, er, yes, our two both still disturb us - sorry. They're not allowed to sleep with us though and never have been :) We've found that the best deterrent is the vacuum cleaner - we set it up outside the bedroom door, plug it in and switch it on, but leave it switched off at the plug. If they disturb us, DH (as the lighter sleeper), flicks the plug switch next to the bed on and off briefly and it usually scares them off until a more reasonable hour. Not much use if she's in the room with you though!

Oh what a cutie!!!! Ah heck...let her cuddle up at night and things will be fine! ;o) The more the merrier in the family bed! LOL

Your clamshell quilt still looks stunning, even though you haven't worked on it! It's gorgeous! :o))

Oh how I remember!
Nothing on earth has the 'bouncing off the wall' energy of a kitten!
What is amazing is how they can be totally sound asleep the next minute, as if someone flipped a switch!

Mia is a doll. It looks like you have a keeper. My cat is old, 16, but he comes and goes from the bed several times a night. He can jump in bed just as gentle as can be or he can come in like a ton of bricks and announce himself. The bad behavior comes about when the food bowl is empty or close to empty. He always has dry food but he prefers the canned so we have learned to check the bowl before bed.

May I also suggest that you insure this baby. We have had several $1,000+ bills on our animal over the years. Insurance was not available 16 years ago but my next animal will have insurance. I work for a large company and last week they offered a pet policy that we can buy for our furry friends. Most vets also sell insurance.

Congratulations!!

What a sweetie pie Mia is, I had a kitten with that name once, she was a lilac point siamese.
Your quilt looks so good, it makes me wish I knew how to quilt better!!
Love your stitching projects, OMG, where do you find the supplies? I have a hard time here in Alberta, not too many places to shop...I get tired of ordering everything on line and paying duty. The old sampler styles are so beautiful.....yours is really just stunning!

OMG how cute! Is she your first cat? Be careful, they are like potato chips, you can't have just one! They are nocturnal and both my boys sleep with me and jump on and off my bed several times a night, but it's something you get used to eventually...

Mia is totally cute...no wonder she's captivated all your hearts! It makes me want a kitten now! lol

I've never had a cat but years ago, I cat-sat and one of the kitties was a bundle of energy and woke me up at 5am every morning. Good thing he was a cute purr monster! 5am is wicked early! lol

Love seeing your Merry Cox pieces! Have fun with Mia!

Such a cute new family member. Looks like she has definitely stolen the hearts of everyone in the household. Between Mia and iPad, no wonder there's not much crafting going on.

How wonderful that you adopted a kitten Margaret. She is such a sweety. Rest assured that she will not keep you up like this every night. Only while she is a kitten, a bit like a baby but she will grow out of it much sooner, rest assured. I love Merry Cox so post as many pictures as you like. Lovely stitching as alwasy Margaret. ; )

I saw no frowsy woman--You are a very handsome family, indeed. Of course, a little Mia in the picture doesn't hurt any--she is ADORABLE!

And, that class piece is absolutely stunning--all those rich colors! I love the finishing fabric, as well!

Oh Margaret, what a baby doll boychild has brought home for you all to love! She is sweet as can be!

Cats can be nocturnal, but they do tend to adapt your schedules, so just give her time to grow out of baby hood! And I found to be true of all cats/kitties the more attention you give them, the more they want! Enjoy her!!!

Your Merry Cox piece is stunning beyond words!!! Someone posted that you might look into pet insurance...what I think is you should insure your Merry Cox!!!! She is well worth protecting, just like sweet Mia is!!!

Such a sweet kitty! I can see why you've left all sewing...it's worth it! Those little kitten grow faster than kids, so enjoy the sweetness!

What a cute kitten - we have a Mia as well (dog) , and this one insists on climbing on my lap all the time. She loves to cuddle just like your Mia. She is just adorable!! Conrats on a very sweet addition to your family. Can't tell you about the nighttime thing since we've never had a cat.

Your Mia is so gorgeous and how lovely to see everybody loves her!! also nice to see pics of your family Margaret.

You will NEVER bore me with MC pictures, this set is gorgeous and my friends have made it, but the classes were a little to far away for me, I do have the charts for it kindly gifted to me by a good friend, now I need to find the time making it LOL.

Mia - You are just toooo cute for your own good!

Yes, cats tend to be very nocturnal, BUT you can train them to sleep when you do. It takes a little persistence at first but they will learn that when you go to sleep they too must sleep. LOL...My mom had a cat for almost 20 years and when Sammy heard the words "Sammy go night nights" she knew that meant it's time for bed.

Thanks for sharing your new baby with us and I look forward to seeing more of her...

It's been a long time since our beloved Egyptian Mau died prematurely with liver cancer. We'd love another cat but losing him was like losing a child - we just could not take it again. So we are childless - We never let him in our room at night but he would throw himself at the bedroom door if we tried to sleep too late and would even jump up and hang on the door knob because he knew that device opened the door. Good luck with the new baby - she is darling.
Your Merry set is stunning - enjoy your play time - there is always more time for stitching in your future. Mel

yes, i believe cats are a bit nocturnal...my beloved Sagebrush was awake off and on during the night and quite the prowler. We had her with us for 17 years and despite some of her quirks, I miss her terribly! You and your family certainly are smitten, as I would be with precious Mia!

Love the Merry Cox piece - absolutely beautiful!!

I can see why everyone is smitted with Mia. Look at that face! I'm a light sleeper so my pups sleep elsewhere at night. A nocturnal kittie, while cute, would probably leave me without enough sleep.

Being smitten by a cute little Kitten
Our dear Margaret had to stop stitchin'.

The pretty white, Mia was cuddly, it's true
So Margaret showed us stitchy hits number 2

For her Mary Cox piece we all squealed with delight
And her clam shell quilt is still out of sight.

We'll look forward, dear Margaret for more updates, it's true
Really - we all just love hearing from YOU!

My apologies for the elementary poetry!

What a sweet addition to the family is Miss Mia! She's adorable; I know you'll enjoy her. Kittens are such fun, then they grow up and they're still fun!

My cats are older, about 13 and 9, so while they do still ramble a bit at night, they do some sleeping as well. Timothy hops on the bed and snuggles up to whoever will let him, and Mimi likes to climb on people and play queen of the hill!

Glenna said...

Mia is such a cutie! (And I love the idea of using the banner!) As kitties get older, they make less noise at night and sleep more, but that's a few years off. And you'll get used to hearing her and you won't notice it much. Three of our six sleep on our bed with us (we bought a bigger bed specifically because of this), with one kitty installed between our pillows. We both find it comforting and are so used to it that we don't notice when one or another climbs over us to settle in or go explore. Enjoy her. And frankly, there's very little point in telling her where to sleep--she's going to decide for herself.

Very cute, kittens just melt you don't they?? Babies of any species have that ability to stop normal transmission and send us all into smitten mode don't they? Can't help with the night time routine, we've always had dogs and fortunately they're not nocturnal....phew!!
Enjoy while she's little, oh and I don't think the woman in the photo looks frowsy just very, very comfortable!!! :o)

Oh, what a sweetheart! Little wonder she has stolen all your hearts!

The Merry Cox pieces are gorgeous! Just love the colours and the finishing fabric is perfect with them.

Hope Mia learns to leave you alone during the night!

What a cutie patootie Lil' Mia is :)
I think your question has been answered about them being nocturnal...yes, they are :) That's why our cats - Chatty and Red sleep in their batchelor pad (the basement) each night. That way they can throw their rousing batchelor parties each night and we're none the wiser! Then in the morning I let them up feed them and then they sleep all day (so they can get ready for their batchelor parties at night)!

I can see why little Mia has stolen your hearts, Margaret. Oh, she is so precious. I wish I could get another cat, but my husband is allergic to them and endured his allergies from our old cat for 14 years...

Your quilt is so pretty and the Merry Cox pieces are exquisite!

Karoline said...

Ohhh what a cutie! Mia is gorgeous. As for nights our cats ended up barred from our bedroom not so much for waking us up as for the 'friends' they would bring in :\

The Merry Cox piece is stunning, I would love to do that class.

Oh Margaret, this Merry Cox assembly is out of this world. I just love it. I've always loved her designs, particularly the ones she designed for classes. But that reminds me of the fact that she once designed a set for the JCS magazine. I'Ll have to look and see if this could be my next winter project ...

What a precious little kitten! Unfortunately cats are nocturnal but the good news is once they are out of the baby stage they become better at being quite at night. Our cats come and go at night but when they were little, ugg! Pure mayhem! We let them sleep with us too if they wanted to. Eventually everyone settles into a routine.
I love your Merry Cox pieces. And you even finished them! LOL! I have not completed mine, :( Maybe after Santa...

Sweet kitten!
I feel guilty now I've seen your Merry Cox piece. I started this as a 'New Year start' in ... 2008 and it's still unfinished. I wasn't keen on the colours so decided to re-stitch it in different shades and then I decided to re-design it and that's as far as I got. Whenever I get to finish it I hope it looks as good as yours!
