bound feet

I finished the color work section of my Eclat du Jour bag.

And yes, in case you're wondering, I had a change of heart and changed one of the colors.  The blue colorway is a Plucky Knitter yarn called Two Drifters in Primo Fingering.  The neutral color is a Cephalopod yarn called Moon Jelly in Skinny Bugga.  Now I have to get up the nerve to do the rest -- which involves at least two techniques I've never done before.  Yikes!  Plus blocking and finishing, of course.  I seem to have put it away for now.  lol!

And here are my Tula blocks for the week.  Being finished with the triangle blocks is a relief.  :D

The father type and I went to our favorite craft fair on Saturday, the Lyndhurst Craft Fair.  It's both a foodie and crafty extravaganza.  We always manage to get some kettle corn.

And to bring home a yummy tart from Dutch Desserts.  (This one was peach/raspberry.)

There were so many wonderful artists there, but I feel funny posting pictures without giving them credit so I won't.  But we did stop at one of my favorites, Laura Baring Gould, who makes wonderful cast bronze pieces.  This makes the third year I've bought something from her.

We had a lovely conversation about her work and about other things as well.  And I brought home a lovely piece.

The piece in the front -- a "bound foot shoe" made from an actual shoe from China.  You can see all the wonderful detail from the shoe, even the stitching.  The two pears in the back are also Laura's work.  What you can't tell from the pictures is how wonderfully heavy and substantial these pieces are.  The bound foot shoe has even more significance for me since one of my grandmothers had bound feet.  She showed them to me once, unwrapped and naked.  It's an experience I will never forget.

Rachel and crafts

I can't wait for Rachel to be done.  Not yet though.

At least the border is done.  And the cute couple.

This past weekend, we went to our favorite craft fair.  It's held twice a year, in spring and fall.  Besides crafts, there were lots of yummy food booths.  We always get kettle corn.  And this year, we also tried this.

A peach-raspberry tart from Dutch Desserts, Inc.   So yummy!!  I did bring home a couple of things as well.

You might remember the larger, greenish pear from last year's craft fair.  Had to get another this year.  They are brass, quite heavy and wonderful to hold in the hand.  They are made by Laura Baring-Gould. 

I also came home with this.

I've been wanting a pretty switch plate for my sewing room.  Found this one and fell in love.  It's by Dwo Wen Chen.   His booth was full of bright, whimsical, colorful ceramics.  Just lovely!

We also brought home a welcome home present for the boy child, but it's a surprise for him.  :D  He will be home soon!  He has final projects and final exams to deal with first though.

Mia was once again displaced from "her" chair, so resorted to her usual tactic.

Almost there

Ann Rayner is almost there.  Sort of.

Just the grass to finish.  But the grass is going to take time.  Especially with those over one sheep.  As Deb told me, they are a pain.

Please ignore the lumpy stitching.  What the heck, am I that bad?!  Anyway, see the tiny sheep?  Ugh.

Love the couple though.  Funny how Deb and I each did our own thing with their hair and ignored instructions.

Over the weekend, we went to the big craft fair.  We used to go all the time when the kids were younger. The girl child loved the face painting.  The boy child tagged along.  That was quite a few years ago.  Well a few days ago, the boy child saw a post card for the fair in the mail and said we should go, so we did.  I didn't take any pictures at the fair of course.  I never remember to do things like that.  But I'll show you what treasures I found there.

Cool, huh?  The pumpkin reminded me of the pumpkins Valerie found and showed once on her blog.  The cool round thing that's painted is a gourd -- isn't that cool?!  And the pear is made out of brass and is veeeerrrry heavy.  I love it!  Happy Mother's Day to me!

We also got the father type a man purse for an early Father's Day present.  He's always carrying his iPad around -- now he has something to carry it in.

The boy child just enjoyed walking around and looking at all the pretty things.  He kept saying he couldn't get anything since he was going to college soon and wouldn't have anywhere to put things.  :D  (He's very, extremely, enormously excited about going to this college of his.  I think he's a bit obsessed about it.  lol!)

Now of course, for Mia.  Here she is with the boy child in one of her least favorite positions.  The boy child loves to grab her and hold her against her will.  She will only tolerate it from him.  And only for short snatches.  lol!

And here's Mia perching on the boy child's school backpack.  It has a nice mesh pocket in front that she's very fond of.  (Cat lovers will understand why.)
