It's Mia's fault

Yup.  It's Mia's fault.  I started a new project.  It's the Hornbook Bestiary by Scarlet Letter.  I'm using the materials from the kit, AVAS.

This is done in tent over one on 35ct.  The angel has so many stitches!  I so want to get to the ABCs, but I'm determined to finish the angel first.

Here's my fussy cut star for the week, using a fabric from Wiscasset by Minick and Simpson.

And here's my progress on the Cobblestone sweater for the boy child.  It's been too warm to work for long stretches on a wool sweater.  (My hands get sweaty.  Do others have this problem?)

So why is it Mia's fault that I started a new project, you ask?  Very simple.

Monday, I was cutting her claws, and I noticed at least 3 of the claws on her right paw looked injured.  I looked up what to do online, and of course freaked out.  lol!  Mia was due for her yearly exam in another month or so anyway, so I took her in for that as well.  She got her vaccines after the vet confirmed that her paw was ok, that I just should watch it.

I went to a dentist appointment in the afternoon, got home and found poor Mia crouching miserably on the ground.  She had thrown up in a few places and looked very unhappy and unwell.  I called the vet's, and yes, they said it was probably a reaction to the vaccines.  So back in we went (Mia struggled mightily both times, she is so afraid of the vets) and poor Mia got a benadryl shot to combat her allergic reaction to the vaccines.  Yikes.  From now on, when she gets her vaccines, she will have to have a benadryl shot first.  It took Mia another day before she got back to her normal self.  And I think one more day before her temp was back to normal.

Mia at the vet's

It was very stressful for both of us, Mia and me.  She hates the vet, I hate when she's sick.  And what happens when I get stressed?  I decide to start a new project.  lol!  So yeah.

I'm psyched.  Wimbledon starts tomorrow!!!!!!  (Can you tell Wimbledon is my favorite slam?)

Thanks for stopping by and saying hi.  I hope everyone has a great week. ( Did anyone else watch the US  at the FIFA World Cup last night?  Wow!  It was so exciting!)

  1. ooOoo! Loving the angel.
Poor Mia. Mabel has to have the Benedryl also now. Her face swells up from vaccines.

  2. Didn't you hear me screaming when Portugal scored at the end? What a disappointment! Your angel is a beauty, as is your latest star...can't wait to see that quilt! Poor Mia...hope she is feeling better today...I bet she's been very sleepy.
    Have a great week,
    Robyn

  3. Oh, poor MIa! Tyg doesn't get reactions to his vaccinations (next week), but he equally hates going to the vet's. Last year we had to take him in for an emergency benedryl shot after he was stung by a couple of bees (not sure he learned his lesson though). I have Hornbook in my stash...it is tempting, but I really hate tent stitch. Your start looks fabulous!

  4. Poor darling, I hope she's ok now - and what a great new start.
We started watching the US game, but gave up before the second half: too deep in the night for our time zone, when there's work waiting for us next day :-) My Dutch DH is all psyched for today's game: NL is through already and so is Chile, but they have to win their group to avoid Brazil in the first knock-out game (assuming that B will win their group, which is as good as certain).

  5. Looks like you've got a good go on the Hornbook. I bet it won't take you nearly as long to stitch it as I did. LOL!

Sorry to hear Miss Mia is unwell. Hope she bounces back soon.

  6. Oh I love that new start, but...... Red Deer is also such a great stitch. Great therapy when we are stressed. Glad Mia is fine. We hate for our little ones to be sick as we feel so helpless.

I will watch your progress. Is this whole project tent stitch?

  9. Oh, I hope Mia feels better soon! I need to take Gigi to the vet too but it is always a horror of a time getting her to cooperate!

What a fantastic soccer game last night! It was a nail biter! but I am glad that they are still in it. So happy that Wimbledon is starting up too. Both Wimbledon and the US Open are my faves.

Great new stitchy start! Have a great week!

  12. Awww, poor Mia, poor you! I hope she is better soon.

A great new start. I saw Lisa's recent finish and I couldn't believe it was all over one! Have fun!

  13. OMG - I just knew you were going to say Mia threw up on your Red Deer - thank goodness it was less dramatic than that and you just needed a "me toy". I watched Lisa work her Hornbook this past year and it is a beautiful piece. Great progress on Cobblestone - it's so beautiful and no I don't have sweaty hands but I do sweat around my neck and face and I don't have to be working with wool for that to happen - just being under my Daylight causes that in the summer time. TMI I'm sure LOL ! Enjoy the start of Wimbledon and have a great week! Mel

  15. Oh, poor Mia! It is so stressful when our pets get sick. Your angel is beautiful Margaret and the perfect response to stress!
As always, your star is beautiful - I am so fascinated by them.
Hope Mia continues to feel better and that you can relax and enjoy Wimbeldon.

  19. Ugh...I can't believe Portugal scored and it tied with like 20 minutes to spare! Nooooooo!!

That is one funky angel...it looks like it's crossed with a beehive. I will need to look at the design photo. LOL Wonderful fussy star.

Poor Mia...sounds like a terrible time at the vets. I hope she is feeling more like herself now.

  20. Poor Mia, it's not funny when our little furry ones are sick. Like you, I get very stressed and worried. I hope she's fully recovered very soon. We almost lost a cat once when she had her routines vacs. It was the feline leukaemia one that caused the problem. She never had it again and she was fine.

  21. It's always so sad when our critters don't feel well. I cried when Chewie got her kitten boosters...she made the most awful, pitiful sounds and did not want to be touched. It was heart breaking. Enjoy the matches!!!

  22. Poor, poor Mia! I am so glad that she is back to normal. So stressful for you both!
Lovely new start. I love this week's Fussy star too.
I love the color of the sweater that you are knitting.
Here's to a quiet restful week for Mia!
    Hugs

  23. Neat project to start. Reminded me that I have Long Dog's Beautie Spot waiting patiently for me.

  24. Grabbing at straws now for excuses to start a new project?

Anyway, sorry poor Mia and her Mommy had to go through all that trauma. Hope the stitching start calmed you down. Angels are supposed to do that, yes?

  25. Poor Miss Mia! I'm glad she's feeling better. I hope she got a special treat for all the stress!

In Florida, the AC is always on full blast so my hands don't sweat. We generally sit under a quilt in the living room because there is a ceiling fan right over the couch. Of course, that doesn't make sense when we look at our electric bill....

  26. What else is there to do when you feel stressed except start a new project?

Hope Mia is feeling better. I hate it when the furry ones are sick; you know they feel bad but they can't tell you what's wrong.

  27. Oh Mia Oh Margaret! Glad Mia is okay--so stressful for both of you.

    Your angel is beautiful.

Hope the coming week is less challenging for both you and Mia.

  28. I started watching the soccer game but although it was exciting enough I went to bed after the first half, I just was too tired. Next Thursday there will be the match USA - Germany and I'm glad thta it will be earlier. I hope it will be exciting as well.

Poor Mia that she was feeling so unwell after the vaccines. But so good that she helped you to start a new project, lol. And it's such a wonderful project. I have seen it lately on Nicola's SL blog, it's looking so great.

  29. Love the Angel! and your knitting! I can't knit in the summer either, but I find wooden needles help a bit

  30. Oh poor Mia she has been through the mill, hope she's back to her old self now. You've made great progress on your new project you'll have that angel completed in next to no time. The boy child's jumper is growing well wow! You've managed to put in some serious knitting lol even if the weather has been hot great job. I just become a lazy slob in the heat and do nothing oops.

  31. Aw, poor little Mia, I really hope she feels better soon. And yes, we human beings suffer too when our cats are ill...

Your new start really looks great, I have not seen that sampler before but I really love it! Enjoy stitching.

  32. Yes that is scary. Our dog was allergic to something in the booster shots and had enormous hives that closed her eyes and pulled her lips back showing her teeth! Her whole body was huge from them. They decided since she was indoors to not continue the following years. Poor Mia! Glad she's back to normal. But that 36 count over one - that's scary too!

  33. Poor Mia - no one likes to go to the vet anymore often than one has too. I've never heard of a cat having an allergic reaction to the vaccine before. I've been following the Inspired Stitcher (Lisa)and she just finished stitching the Beastary. It is so cool Margaret. You'll have lots of dun stitching it. The animals are very whimsical.

  34. Love that angel - and the new star! I had a dog who was allergic to (or they gave too much) rabies (?) shot. Her whole face was swollen. I called and they told me to give her half Benadryl tabs through the evening and next day. It seemed to work out fine, too.

  35. I loved following Lisa's stitching of this piece, and now I get to follow yours, Margaret!! That really is a gorgeous design and it looks like such fun to stitch...

I hope Mia is feeling all better now--I just feel so bad for her!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Love your new start! And pretty colors in your star! Oh! Poor Mia! That must have been so scary for both of you. At least they know now that she is allergic and can take precautions the next time.

  37. So happy to hear Mia is better! I've been going through a lot with my cats recently - and it is hard! I was walking obsessively! Trying to calm myself down. I get really hot when I knit - even if the air is on. My hands don't get sweaty tho. I also keep a fan blowing on me - so maybe that helps!

  38. Oh, poor little Mia. I'm so glad she is better.
    Your star is another beauty.
I think starting new projects is a great stress reliever and you'll,probably have it done before there is a new W. Winner :-)

  39. Awww bless little Mia. I hope she is back to her normal self now.

Nice start on your new project. The jumper is coming along nicely and your star is beautiful.

  40. Poor thing!! Boo boo paw AND belly at the same time. She must have been miserable. :(

I'll knit socks and mittens year round. They are so small the hot weather doesn't seem to affect anything but I can definitely see how having a larger wool project on your lap would be suffocating.

  41. Oh my, I am glad Mia is better. I had a cat once that freaked at the vets and had to be muzzled. It was horrible. I am so glad to hear you were able to de-stress as well.

Watching the World Cup is interesting this year - my new job is with a German owned company with many German employees based here at headquarters. Very popular sport!!

Enjoy your new project and enjoy your tennis!

  42. Poor Mia, that wasn't a good day for her - hope she is back to her happy self again.
Yes, the hotter it gets the more I feel like working with wool LOL.
That is going to be a beautiful sweater.
