Sarah Woodham progress

Well I've made up my mind -- Sarah Woodham is looking just fine on this 40ct vintage Maple Sugar.  Here's my progress as of the weekend.

I'm using the called for fibers.

The chart says that the model's verse was done in tent stitch over one.  But I was stubborn and I'm doing mine in a full cross over one.

Sarah is such a pretty piece!

In other news, we finally had a snow day last week with maybe half a foot of snow.  Still nothing compared to what you folks down south have gotten so far this year.  This past weekend, instead of celebrating Valentine's Day like we usually do, we cleaned the house from top to bottom in preparation for a visit from my sister, BIL, their two kids and their dog.  They couldn't stay long, just a couple of nights, but it was nice to see them and hang out.  And of course, it decided to snow more for their drive to their next destination today.  Silly weather!   And silly me -- I didn't take a single picture while they were here!  Didn't take a single stitch either.  Ah well!

Now it's Winter Break this week, so the boy child is lying around being bored and not wanting to practice his bass.  He had a lot of fun with his fellow boy cousin while they were here, but now he's waiting for one of his good friends to get home from Florida so they can hang out.  It's snowing, but for some reason it's melting away on the driveway.  Which is a good thing -- less shoveling to do later!

Thanks for stopping by and saying hi!  Hope the rest of your week is a good one!  Can't wait for market!!!!   :D

  2. What a beautiful piece. I am not stitching much today, as I have sciatica in both legs. So I can't sit very long at a time.

It is in the 50s and sunny here in south Texas. I don't miss the Ohio winters. We have been here since July. We didn't get any of the snow that Dallas got. Just a cold rain and a flake or two.

    Have a wonderful day.

  7. Beautiful-- absolutely beautiful. Oh dear, I have definite signs of sampler envy now. Sigh. Nothing for it but more stitching... and possibly stashing. :)

    Here's to snow-boredom passing quickly.

  10. Margaret - I am just blown away by the amount of progress you've made on this - in what - 12 days? And you didn't stitch while your family was there??? My goodness woman, you are so fast. With all that said, Sarah looks absolutely wonderful!!

  11. Sarah is such an exquisite sampler and look awesome on the maple sugar - I've wanted to try that color but have just hesitated to order something I may not like and I don't often have the luxury of seeing in person. This is another one I've had stashed for a while but don't dare start at this time. Maybe when the "wool fever" of winter is over - I might get more sampler stitching done. Mel

  13. I am completely amazed at how fast you stitch on 40ct! I go at a snail's pace on high counts LOL. Sarah is looking fantastic and the fabric colour is perfect for those pretty thread colours! :)

  14. Your Sarah is gorgeous Margaret. I debate about the full or tent stitch over one too... I chose to do the full cross on my Ann Medd. You have to go with what looks best to your eye.

  17. Margaret - I am amazed at how much you have completed in such a short amount of time and she is just beautiful. I have this piece in my stash but now that I think about it, the fabric I ordered in October never arrived to me, I'll have to check on that.

I am amazed that you are stitching those letters with an x - I know how difficult that can be, but it looks lovely.

Can't wait to see more of your progress on this one.

Enjoy your week with your son.

  21. Sarah is beautiful.!. I would say I was jealous but I do own this chart and could stitch it also. I'm not up to stitch on 40ct though so you are on your own for that. You have a lot finished already. You've been hiding her from us - more pics please.

  22. Your sampler is truly stunning! I think it looks perfect in whole cross stitches.

We haven't had much snow this year either. We had 4" last Friday evening, and it was gone by Sunday.

  32. Margaret, Sarah's beautiful and I really like the Vintage Maple Sugar. It's very pretty! The colors are gorgeous, but I'm with you on working with the threads you're using. They aren't my favorites either.

I like how your profile icon shows the top half of Sarah and Tanya's shows the bottom half!

  33. Our eldest boy child has also fallen victim to the 'I'm bored vacation blues' and is now at his grandma's house. Though he hasn't practiced guitar, he's been pretty good about the trumpet.

LOVING your progress on this sampler, and good for you going for the full over-one stitch. I find verse can be difficult to read when done in tent stitch. Or is that just me? ;)

  34. Your Sarah Woodham is looking really good. You have made great progress. I am hoping to get mine finished up this weekend so that I can start on something new. All I have left is a couple of the flowers on the right side and 3 verses.

  35. Fantastic progress, Margaret! I think the linen was a great choice--you can really see the white. I have Pearled Barley chosen for mine and haven't started yet because I'm a bit worried about the white. You'll be done in no time!

  40. Sarah Woodhouse is a beautiful piece and she is coming right along! Thank you for your kind words on my blog. I wish you could have gone to the Williamsburg class too! But there is always next year...Februray 2011...mark your calendar!

  41. I am newly back to cross stitch after 18 years, having been in the needlepoint world. I can't believe how things have changed. I love your sampler and am unfamiliar with Sarah Woodham. Do you know if this pattern is still for sale and how I can find it? Also, I love your vintage Sugar Maple linen. Who makes this?
Thank you and so glad to find other stitching enthusiasts! Gorgeous job by the way!

  42. As always, your work is lovely. You inspire me!

I need to try to visit your LNS. I found that's it only about 20 miles from where my family lives in NJ. Did you ever go to the shop that used to be in Plainfield, NJ? I can't remember the name.
