A new era

I've been stitching and knitting this week.  First up, Splendor XXVI.

I have the feeling I will run out of gas on this one soon.  I like the convenience of one color stitching, but color is what calls to me in a piece so I'm fighting the feeling of wanting to stitch on a piece with more colors.  We shall see what happens.

I've also been knitting haphazardly on my Wearwithall Stole.

Slowly but surely.  Just one more color after this one!

The end of an era and the beginning of a new one is occurring in our family.  The father type retired from IBM Research after 33 years.  He was feted and celebrated last week and had his last day on Friday.

This morning, the father type left bright and early for NYC.  He is starting a new job at a place at which I think he will love working.

Google is full of geeky nerds like him -- hey, any place that has Lego for the employees to play with is a perfect place for my guy.  I am hoping he loves his new job.

Both IBM and Google stocks seem to have noticed my sweet father type's retirement and hiring.

lol!  The father type was having some fun and created these posts on Instagram.  But yes, IBM and Google really did have dramatic falls and rises in their stock prices last week.  Coincidence??  :D

Mia has been enjoying herself around here.

She loves bubble wrap.

And she desperately wanted to play with my yarn.  lol!  Or play with my knitting bag.  Or both.

Thanks as always for stopping by and saying hi.  I hope everyone has a great week!

  13. I just can't stitch using one colour - I like the end result but I need the stimulus of colour to keep me going. Our poodle and the pusskins do not like bubble wrap - I think this stems from the noise it makes when popped:-)

  14. My geeky brother has been courted by both IBM and Goodge(Verizon too), but he's pretty settled with the university job for now. That Lego thing may change his mind though.
Mia is so cute. We have a very old black and white here named Twinsy. He's the neighbor's cat who moved in with us permanently about 5 years ago.

  16. Ooh, google! Lucky him, and lucky them. Of course it is not a coincidence their stocks goes up:) I admire your sewing - just the lack of size in the stitches makes my eyes want to cross themselves:) can you really keep Mia from not to play with the yarn?

  17. What a great post! I love your over one stitching, but I hear you on the one color stitching. It's not my favorite thing either. It's a beautiful piece though so you should determinately finish it sometime.
    I also love your knitting!
Good luck to your husband and his new job. I'm sure he will love it, and I'm sure they could use his talents.
Lots of changes in the air at our house too. I'll have to e-mail you about them. :)
    Hugs!

  19. Congrats to your husband! How great not only to be able to take retirement, then land somewhere else where he can "play"! That's just a dream!

That little red stitch looks so sweet...and so tiny! I can't imagine it as I know I can't stitch that tiny. Your stole is looking very cozy!

  20. Big congrats to father type for retiring and moving on to Google!! That must be pretty exciting for him! Lego in the workplace?!! Where can I can a job like that?! I love the instagram photos of the rise and fall of IBM and the definite rise of Google when he joined...lol!! Great stitching so far! I hear you about stitching with one colour. It can sometimes be a wee bit monotonous, hence why I often have a few things on the go to switch to. The scarf is looking lovely and that photo of Mia staring at the string is priceless!! I love your knitting bag with the wooden handles. My mom has an old bag with wooden handles she stored her yarns in. Maybe I should get it from her now :D Hugs!!

  21. Ha ha!! I love the stock trend shots, Margaret--go Google (I actually own five whole shares myself--woo hoo!!)...Tell him I expect it to double in price within a year now that he's working there :)

Best wishes to your husband and I'm glad he's not retiring to stay at home with you :) I know he'll have a ball at Google. I keep trying to get my sons to apply there just for the experience of seeing what it's like!

  31. I'm like you I get bored with a monocolor stitch even though I admire the effect. Congrats to you DH - looks like a wonderful place to work. And a shout out to Mia from the Cats of Clos du Bois.

  36. LOL! I have so enjoyed reading about your "geeky nerd" :)
My husband is much the same and that's why I love him so! I do not thing the drop and fall of the stocks are coincidence! LOL :)
May the Father Type have much success at Google!

I love your stole and have been considering doing one for me....

And your stitching is perfection as always!

  37. Go, go, go stole! You're going to finish it just in time too, weather wise. You can snuggle up in it all winter long.

I can see where working on one color would get tedious after awhile. PLEASE tell me you have lots and lots of that red in the same dye lot?!? I would be in fear of running out and not being able to find more in the same exact color. lol

Gosh, that is TOO funny about the stocks. Haha! Congrats on his new job. :)

  38. I laughed out loud at the two stock pictures. Too Funny! Your DH can make a big difference to Google :)

  43. first congrats to your DH on his retirement, is the going to work at Google a joke? I couldn't believe he wouldn't take a month off so surely the "going to work at Google" must be a joke right? LOVE the knitting bag - don't believe I've seen it peeking out before - your shawl is looking fantastic. Wonder where your drifting needle will land next dear Margaret - enjoy Mel
