Late TUSAL, a gig, and flitting

I was all over the place working on different projects this week.  I picked up Dorothy Walpole again.

But then I hit those satin stitch letters.  Ugh.  So I picked up my Wearwithall Stole.

Worked on it on and off through the week and managed to add the next color.  Yay!

Then a certain BOM came in the mail.  So I also worked on this.

The first blocks of a Dear Jane quilt.  I'm using the foundation paper piecing method (except for the 9 patch) on this.  Boy, am I rusty on my machine sewing skills!  I hope I can keep up with this one!

Finally, I picked up this longstanding WIP.  Somehow this project is one that I pick up for a few stitches and then put away again.  Kind Fond Love by Brenda Keyes (The Sampler Company).

I'm currently wondering which of my many projects to work on next.  lol!

I'm very late for a TUSAL report.  I actually skipped July's report all together since at the time, I'd mostly been doing hand sewing work on my hexie quilt.  So I guess this TUSAL is for both July and August.

Quite a few threads in there, considering how I usually don't throw anything away that's longer than an inch or so.

The boy child had a gig with his friends at a local cafe this past Thursday.  It was folk music this time, my kind of stuff.  :D  I think the boy child would have preferred something else that had more challenging bass lines, but he was ok with it in the end.  Here is a pic of my baby on stage.

It was a great show!

The two kids have been enjoying each other's company as usual.

Thanks as always for stopping by and saying hi.  I hope everyone has a great week!

  1. Hi Margaret, funny how we flit from project to project isn't it? Your Dorothy is coming along nicely though. It is such a gorgeous sampler. and your stole -- LOVE it!! Glad the boy child's gig went well. That must be so fun!

  2. Your stole is going to be gorgeous...I'm in love with the colors of the yarn.
Dorothy looks wonderful... how about just doing one satin stitch letter per day and moving onto Kind Fond Love, knitting or DJ.
Love the triangle block for your DJ quilt. I have a feeling the more triangle blocks you stitch the quicker I'm going to cave in and start my own DJ quilt.
KFL is going to look awesome too... but I don't envy you all that over one stitching.
Mia and the boy child... both adorable... as always! lol :-)

How lucky you are to have such a musically talented boy! It must be fun to go hear him play.

  6. Hi Sweet Margaret! It's been so long since I've left you a comment, I'm so sorry. I hope you are enjoying your summer. Mine has been really busy, and I haven't looked at blogs much, but I wanted to let you know that I love all of your WIP's. I have all of those samplers and even Dear Jane in my workbasket. I love them all! I wish I could knit, your stole will be beautiful.
I loved your Ellen Chester piece as well. I took her class MANY years ago, and I want to finish that sampler some day. Seeing yours makes me want to get it out.
It's so fun to see pictures of your son, playing music and enjoying Mia.
    Have a great week!

  8. Good to see Dorothy again. Your stole looks lovely, lets hope the sun will shine a little more before you need that;)
Oh dear Jane, how lovely to see you make that Margaret, of course you will keep up.

  10. I can't settle on a project either, but that's ok--it's nice when everything gets a little attention--it's still progress. I hated the satin stitched letters in Dorothy, so I picked out the two letters I did and restitched them in regular cross stitch. Cheating, I know, but it'd never get done otherwise. Love the stole, but I can't knit something warm (even if it's soft) in the summer (even if the a/c in the house is set to a shivery low).

  11. All fun projects!!!!! Skipping around can be fun sometimes ;-). Glad you are enjoying having the boy child home this summer. It's so hard to believe he's going to be a sophomore in college this fall.

  13. Oh I love seeing the contented pictures of Mia with your boy, and the one of him with his band. That's so great that he's doing that. I miss my boy's music.

  14. I would probably sub the stain stitches! Not my best stitch. She's a beauty either way. KFL is over one? Yikes. I've always liked her designs. Hard to believe that Music Man has already completed his first year. Glad he and Mia are enjoying his break.

  15. That stole will be beautiful when finished. You are a much more advanced knitter than me.

Can't wait to to see the hexie quilt all quilted :)

  16. What a variety! So many different skills and your work is beautiful on each project. Love the knitting .. but who can work on that in the summertime? ;-) You are so dedicated.

  17. Satin stitch letters {cringe}..don't blame you for laying it aside, but Dorothy does look very nice.

I love the pics you post of Mia and her boy...you can tell where her heart is!

  18. Hi Margaret, I'm another one who hasn't been leaving a lot of comments lately. Sorry, just had so much going on. Anyway,
Love your Dorothy. She is looking really lovely. While reading your comments about Dorothy, the words from an old song down here came into my head - It's a Fine Line Between Pleasure and Pain. Here is the song on You Tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH8hcfhG1Jo Sadly Chrissy Amphlett passed away a couple of months ago. She used to wear school girl uniforms and the boys used to go wild lol. Silly men :).
Love your stole, it is really lovely. Keep telling my Sister to check it out. - Sandra.

  20. It must have been an odd week for you moving from project to project - aren't you more of a 1 at a time project person? You've been working on some gorgeous things. I was thrilled to see your started Dear Jane! You do nothing half way!

  21. Nice progress on all your projects! Love the new quilting you are working on. I have been intrigued by paper piecing method since watching you on your hexie quilt and am working up the courage to try it! Someday!

  31. It's fun to see you working on so many projects margaret - i know that is not your preference but I like to see others affected by my illness I guess - you know "birds of a feather" and all that jazz. Speaking of jazz or lack thereof - nice to see your DS out in public playing the bass again. Cheers ! Mel

  32. Wow! What a great bunch of projects you've got going on!!! Still loving the colors in that stole too!!!!
    I always love a Mia update. :)

  33. Your use of the word flitting made me smile, you are usually so disciplined. Do you know that in Scotland flitting can mean to move house?

  34. I'm finding the same at the moment, can't seem to settle on one definite project to work on. Love your Kind Fond Love. I've thought about adding that one to my stash at some point. Love your quilt project and, of course your other WIP's and the latest Mia pics. (Soon be tennis time again!)

  35. Fab projects!! You must be enjoying having your son home!!!

  36. It's so funny to see your posts and to think of my post today since I'm being like you, working on multiple projects at the same time...crocheting, quilting and stitching. Love your knitted scarf so far. Those colours are just so beautiful. KFL looks like it's 1 over 1 to me and it's beautiful. That's pretty cool that your boy got to play his bass onstage. Must have been a great concert!
