little x's or knit purl knit?

I started a new project last week.  She's a beauty -- you've probably seen her around the blogging world.

Dorothy Walpole by Scarlet Letter
40ct Heritage by Picture This Plus (Colorscapes)
AVAS called for, plus 2 Belle Soie

Just a note: the lighter color in the strawberry in the border was too close to the darker color, so I substituted BS Pink Quartz.  I also didn't have AVAS 4241, so I substituted BS Biscotti.

I'm loving this one, although it took a while to get back into doing eyelet letters.

And then I got totally distracted by KwiltyKim's knitting.  I had to look up that pattern to see what she was doing with those pretty colors.  And I fell in love.

See what I mean?  I even got started on the knitting -- 360 stitches to a row.

I'm in love.  It's the Wearwithall Stole from the Wearwithall book.  Gorgeous!  And perfect for knitting during Wimbledon!

Mia has been putting herself in wherever possible.  I washed a quilt, and the next thing I know,

Yes, she did that herself.  She's also been hanging out a lot.  And playing.

(The tunnel is from the kids' childhood.  We're not sure if Mia likes it or not.)

Great day at Wimbledon today!  All men and women out to play the round of 16!

Thanks as always for stopping by and saying hi.  I hope everyone has a great week, and for those in the US, a great July 4!  Happy Canada Day to those in Canada!

  1. Your start on Dorothy looks wonderful. That's a sampler that's been on my list for a while but I just haven't gotten there yet.

Love that yarn. I wonder why people decide to start knitting and crocheting in the summer of all times? I've been going through patterns too and can't figure out why I don't do that stuff in the winter.

And great pictures of Mia, but does she really like laying on her back.? That's a funny picture!

  16. Pretty stitching, and that stole is beautiful. Guess I hadn't looked at the result on Kwilty Kim's. Don't think I could keep up with tennis and knit! Mia and BC look relaxed and having fun. Love her quilt snuggling maneuvers! Enjoy your holiday celebrations, too!

As much as I like making little x's, I think I would be lured away by the wool!

  20. Awww, Mia looks so sweet and happy! I like the one of her laying on her back - she looks like "hey, how did I get here in this position?"

Love your new start. Dorothy is such a pretty piece.

Knitting and crocheting? You are a woman of many talents! Have fun watching Wimbledon while playing with yarn!

  21. Dorothy Walpole is a lovely sampler - I started her but have made zero progress to date. That's a lot of stitches to be knitting - my stretch is about 50 - as soon as I go above that my wrists and arms complain.
Mia just makes me smile - I love the photo of her playing.

  22. OMG... those yarn colors are gorgeous. I can see why you wanted to knit that stole.
    Great start on Dorothy!

  23. Hi Margaret...your new sampler is going to be a real beauty...I don't think I've ever seen that sampler before so it will be fun watching your progress. Love the yarn you are using for your new knitting project...one of my very favorite colors!
I always know what I'll be watching when July 4th rolls around...Mr.MW loves tennis! I'll be trying to get some hooking done while it's on.
    Have a great 4th!

  24. The eyelet letters are so striking on your newest sampler, Margaret... You're off to a great start :)

Wow, I can see why you were so drawn to that knitting project--spectacular colors, indeed!

Glad Mia is enjoying your son's summer break :)

  25. Love the new sampler. Eyelet letters are very cool.

360 stitches per row! I think I'd get bored after one row. Pretty yarn and I'm sure the finished product will be beautiful, but glad it's you doing it and not me.

Mia is just the smartest and cutest. How did she manage to get in the quilt that way?

  26. Margaret, I am obsessed with knitting also - I haven't cross stitched in a loooooong time because of it - there are so many indi-hand-dyed yarns out there yummie! The colours you chose for the stole look fantastic! Thanks for mentioning Canada Day! Happy 4th to you - Paula in Canada - www.kelmscottdesigns.com

  28. Ah...Dorothy is on my "to stitch" list too. I can't wait to watch your progress on her. Love those yarn colors. If only I could knit. LOL!

  29. Love that sampler! And what pretty yarn colors! Mia is lucky that she is an only cat - tunnel play here usually ends up with one cat trapped inside while the others plug up each end. :) Mia is just such a sweet little cat!

  30. Stitching, quilting, knitting - you are a renaissance woman!

  32. Hi, Margaret,
I can't believe how much you accomplished on Dorothy in a week!! That would take me a month. I am not a knitter, but appreciate the beautify yarns, Mia must think its great fun when you knit! She looks so content to have your son home. I went to the website you linked to in your post and toyed briefly with signing up for Dear Jane, but then common sense prevailed:) I do love the quilt, but have never even finished the last two BOM's that I was a part of.
    Happy 4th!
    Melinda

  36. Hi Margaret, was wondering what your next SL project would be...I love Dorothy and she is on my list to do. And the yarn -- OMG -- somehow I missed this project on Kim's blog, so I guess that makes you an enabler for me. I need to turn off the computer and stitch or do something! Great pics, as always, of Mia.

  37. The stitching is gorgeous! Mia couldn't be cuter.

  38. Fabulous start on Dorothy! She'll be beautiful. I was just thinking to pulling out a knitting project taking with me to our up coming vacation in Colorado. Then look at you! You are such a bad influence to me in all kinds of directions - stitching, quilting and knitting, too! lol I love anything you do ;) And Mia totally agrees with me.
