That nasty Irene

Hi all.  Just wanted to stick my nose in to say thanks for all the emails and concern about us.  We made it through Irene.  But we lost power about 5:30pm on Sunday and didn't get it back till noon today.  Ugh.  And we had 5 1/4" of water in our basement -- more than any time before.  With no power.  Ugh.  (The water didn't start subsiding till late late Monday and wasn't gone till yesterday.)  The plumber is currently downstairs installing a new water heater.  Everything else down there seems to work, thank God.  There will have to be a major basement cleanup at some point, but not sure when that will happen.

I apologize ahead of time if I don't comment on anyone's blogs for a while or answer your comments to my blog.  I will do my best to start commenting again.   I will also do a TUSAL post soon and a stitching update.

We were lucky when it comes down to it.  We're safe and sound, the house is safe and sound, so we're all good!  But boy, I hope never to live through another hurricane.  lol!

Oh, and a funny thing.  The girl child had a vacation down in Myrtle Beach from last Wednesday to yesterday.  I was panicking about her going down there with the hurricane coming.  Well, of course she came through with hardly any bad weather at all in Myrtle Beach.  We were the ones with the hurricane.  Wouldn't you know it!

I will post again soon.

  1. So sorry to hear about all that mess!
I think these power companies have a lot of 'spalinin' to do!
Try not to stress out too much about it. I know that's easier said than done.

  2. Yuck! Water in the basement is no fun at all, but thank goodness it was only there. Glad to know y'all are ok. Your daughter must be thrilled that she cheated Irene.

  3. So glad to hear from you! I figured you were dealing with basement "goo." Ugh.

I told my parents, who live uncomfortably close to the water on Cape Cod, that they should go to Vermont to be safe. Fortunately, they don't pay any attention to anything I say.

  11. Hi Margaret, I to kept checking your blog to see if you were ok. I guessed you didn't have any power so that is why I didn't email.

I'm so glad that you are all ok which is the main thing and have survived Irene. Possessions can always be replaced, but not people.

Sorry to hear about your basement. Hopefully it won't take long to clear out the water and get things back to normal. Doesn't sound like fun. Take care - Sandra.

  42. Oh Margaret, I am so sorry to hear about the troubles caused by Irene. I hate flooding! Our last house seemed to flood if you spilled a glass of water in the basement. It did get old pretty quickly...
It is good to hear that all of you are all right and that your daughter didn't have to go through any rough storms at the coast.
